I don't understand. How can you drag them onto the form if you cannot see them?

they are not highlighted as an icon as appears on several   you tube sights and when drug on to the form do not show up as eg. push buttons etc just as a black and white   units saying push button.

This sounds like a corrupt Visual Studio install. What version of Visual Studio are you using?

 downloaded community addition and entered advanced hmi solution file for an opener but when I drag tool button to form design I cannot change size etc properties box and code is there but I still have no control on the button to resize or do anything else with it
it appears as a small rectangle with a shoulder silhouette of a mans head in the bottom left lower corner no changes occur when entered
wow

Can you post a screen shot of it? What version of Windows are you using?

Instead of dragging from the ToolBox, try it this way:

Click once on the item in the ToolBox
Go to the form and click and hold the left mouse button
Drag out to the size you want and release the button

When you click once on an item in the Toolbox, then move over to the form, does the cursor change from an arrow to what looks like a couple small square boxes?

The sln files only defines the file structure. If it is messed up, the solution will no most likely open.

Open Visual Studio
File->New Project
Select Templates->Visual Basic->Windows Desktop->Windows Forms Application
It should open to Form1
Go to the ToolBox and add a ComboBox, Checkbox, and Button
See if you can resize the button
